Zinedine Zidane moved clear of Vicente del Bosque to sit at second place as Real Madrid head coach with most wins after Sunday’s 2-1 win at Sociedad.
Goals from Karim Benzema and Captain Sergio Ramos moved Real Madrid to top of La Liga table despite Mikel Merino’s late strike.
Sergio Ramos scored from the penalty spot after Vinicius Jr was brought down by Sociedad defender Diego Llorente. The goal made Ramos the highest-scoring defender in La Liga history.
The win was Zidane’s 134th as Madrid manager, moving him past del Bosque (133) and only behind Miguel Munoz (357).
Zidane is in his second spell in charge of the club, with his 134th win coming after 202 games in charge.
Madrid are now level on points with second-placed Barcelona but they have a superior goal difference.
With 8 rounds of games remaining, Zidane is aiming to win his second La Liga title as Madrid head coach.
Zidane, who played for Madrid between 2001 and 2006, claimed three Champions League (2016, 2017 and 2018) trophies in the dugout.
The 47-year-old Frenchman also won La Liga (2017), UEFA Super Cup (2016 and 2017) Club World Cup (2016 and 2017) and Supercopa de Espana (2017 and 2020) in the coaching role.
