Akinwumi Adesina is being accused of corruption as he head the African Development Bank. These allegations were made by his own staff members.
However, Mr. Adesina has denied all those allegations levelled against him. These allegations have come just three months before he was due to be elected unopposed as the President of the African Development Bank.
Adesina is also accused of bad governance and impunity. He is alleged to be favouring his fellow Nigerians at the bank.
Steve Mnuchin, the US Treasury Secretary, signed a letter sent to the board of the bank rejecting the outcomes of an internal investigations which lead to the clearance of Adesina from all the accusations.
The membership of the African Development Bank is made up of the 54 African countries and there are other 27 members who are not from Africa and USA is one of them and the second largest shareholder at the AfDB.
Nigeria has the largest percentage of shares (9.1%) followed by the USA (6.5%) and Japan at number three with 5.4% of the shareholding.
