Wayne Rooney to join Derby County on a Player-Coach role
Wayne Rooney is set move to Derby County in the capacity of a player-coach role. The 33 year old former England and Everton striker currently plays for Major League Soccer D.C United where he has scored 25 goals in 46 matches. He is expected to join Derby County on a contract of 18 months as soon as the American League comes to an end in November. The club also has an option of extending the contract by 12 months.
He was pictured at the Heathrow Airport in London in Tuesday morning before traveling to Derby to hold talks with Mel Morris who is the owner of the Championship side. Wayne Rooney is also said to have held talks with the current Derby County Manager Philip Cocu who recently replaced Frank Lampard as the Rams boss.
Wayne Rooney in the past has spoken about his desire to become a coach once he hangs up his boots. He spoke about the offer of joining Derby County on a Player-Coach role as being too good to turn down. He will wear jersey number 32 at Derby.
