Senator John McCain of Arizona State has died as a highly respected US legislator. His family has received warm tributes from current and past presidents of the United States of America and from around the world. Paul Ryan, Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders are among those who have sent moving tributes to the fallen hero who fought and was held as prisoner of war for five years during the Vietnamese War.
Senator John McCain is reported to have died on Saturday after a long battle with brain cancer. He was diagnosed with cancer on July 2017 and spend the next one year undergoing treatment in his state of Arizona.
Senator John McCain was a Republican as well as a conservative and he had competed with US President Donald Trump to get the party ticket.
Arizona (one of the 50 states in the USA) has lost an illustrious son who was both a war hero and an effective legislator. This may be one of the reasons why he served as a senator for 35 years.
In 2008 Senator John McCain was the GOP presidential candidate against the younger Democratic Party nominee Barack Obama.
His family released a statement about his death on Saturday 25th August, 2018 which read:
... “with the Senator when he passed were his wife Cindy and their family. At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years.”
“We are immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers.”
May the Lord rest his soul in eternal peace, Amen.
