The 20th Session of the UN Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues is here. The session started today on 19th April, 2021. 

The theme for this year is “Peace, justice and strong institutions: The Role of Indigenous peoples in implementing SDG 16.”

This year’s 20th Session runs from 19 – 30 April, 2021 with a variety of activities. Participants include representatives of 193 member states of the UN, Holy See, State of Palestine, EU and observers from NGOs, Indigenous Peoples Organizations among others. 


Every day, a meeting happens lasting for two hours from 9:00 am – 11:00 am New York Time. 

 

UN Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues was established on 28 July, 2000 with the mandate to deal with indigenous issues related to social development, culture, economic, education, health and human rights. 

In 2021, the UN Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues will be held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and you can watch the sessions on UN Web TV. 

At least 88 Side Events have been registered from organizations from all over the world.
