Most companies in Zimbabwe should have reopened after lock-down measures were relaxed by the government on Monday but they remain shut due to ‘unfeasible conditions’ that have to be met.
Companies have to test all their employees for Covid -19 before being allowed to resume. Business leaders have said this condition defies both economic and health logic.
The confederation of Zimbabwe Industries says the testing kits recommended by the Zimbabwean government are not certified by World Health Organization (WHO), are expensive and don’t give accurate results. Several doctors’ groups have backed the confederation.
Some kits are being sold online in Zimbabwe and one costs about $50.
