Summary of what Uhuru said:
- Closure of bars and night clubs shall continue for a further next 30 days. Ban of alcohol sale by restaurants with residents is hereby lifted;
- “I direct the Health CS working together with CoG Chair to review the efficacy of our response to the pandemic, formulate strategies to identify weaknesses in our healthcare system and recommend ways of improvement,” President Uhuru Kenyatta;
- He called upon relevant agencies to investigate the reported misuse of public funds at Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) within 21 days;
- Since March, 2020 tax cuts have put Ksh. 47.8 billion in the pockets of Kenyans;
- Even under Covid-19, Kenyan economy is growing at 4.6% compared to 5.5% at the same time last year;
- Inflation stands at 4.4 percent compared to 6.3% at the same time last year;
- The banking sector has retooled and re-humanized their models to focus more on their customers
New directives
- CS Interior Coordination of National Government and Chairperson Council of Governors (COG) to convene an inclusive consultative conference in 3 weeks to review Kenya’s Covid-19 response efforts;
- Closure of bars and night clubs to continue for the next 30 days. MOH in conjunction with bar owners to develop self-regulating mechanisms as part of their civic responsibility to their clientele;
- Closing time for restaurants and eateries to be moved from 7 pm to 8 pm starting from 27th Aug 2020;
- Max number of persons permitted to attend funerals and weddings has been reviewed upwards from 15 – 100 with all in attendance abiding with the Ministry of Health protocols;
- Ban on mitumba (second-hand clothes) is lifted;
- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Heritage and Ministry of Health will issue guidelines on the resumption of sporting events in Kenya;
- The nationwide curfew that is in force (9 pm – 4 am) daily is extended by another 30 days;
