A Turkish man was arrested for allegedly killing his pregnant wife by throwing her off a cliff following a session for selfies.
Hakan Aysal is accused of murdering his wife, Semra Aysal, and their unborn baby during a holiday in Butterfly Valley in Mugla, Turkey, in June 2018, according to the Sun newspaper.
Hakan Aysal, 40, allegedly pushed his partner who was seven months pregnant at the time off the cliff. Upon falling 1,000 feet she died on the spot.
After Semra’s death, the husband made attempts to claim a life insurance policy he took out for her valued at 400,000 Turkish lira, or approximately $57,000. He was denied considering there were ongoing investigations by the police into the manner in which the wife died.
Prosecutors have already concluded that the death was not an “accident” and that it was premeditated.
A court has already ruled that the husband be remanded in custody for premeditated murder.
According to Naim Yolcu, brother of the deceased, said the accused brother-in-law did not show any emotions after the death of his sister.
“When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car,” recalled Naim Yoluc during an interview at the court.
“My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad.”
