Trump Pressure on NATO Bears Fruits
The United States allies who are members of NATO have promised to raise their defense budget by 4.3 percent during the current financial year. This announcement was made by NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a press conference on June 28.
This was in response to Donald Trump’s pressure on NATO membership to increase their military spending.
NATO members are increasing their budget as a sign of preparedness against any possible aggression.
In 2016, USA spending on military was 72 per cent of the total budget of all NATO spending. This was disproportionate. This means that the US spent more on military than all NATO countries combined.
President Trump criticized the world leaders during a NATO event during a ceremony for opening the new NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Trump was lecturing world leaders like a school principal admonishing school child.
