The Lokichar oil from Turkana Country will be transported to Mombasa for refinery starting from April.
The officials of Tullow Oil company noted that they want to test whether the quality of Lokichar oil will change after it passes through various climatic conditions.
The Lokichar Oil transportation will commence with 20 trucks per day. That will translate to 2,000 barrels of oil every day.
According to Andrew Kamau, Permanent Secretary (PS) for Energy and Petroleum, the full production of the oil wells is 100,000 barrels per day.
Martin Mbogo, Tullow Oil Kenya manager spoke to the media recently and revealed that the pilot project is to test the viability of the business and not for profit-making.
Number of wells
Tullow Oil has drilled 30 wells under the pilot program. This is expected to run into hundred of wells during full production.
Export
The first oil export will start in earnest as from June.
