Osama Bin Laden was killed by the US Navy Seals in Abbotabad, Pakistan. This special operation ends a decade long hunt for Osama by the Central Investigations Agency (CIA).

The Founder of Taliban Mullah Mohamed Omar dies and his death is kept secret for more than two years. He founded the Taliban in 1994 and by September 1996 he had captured the capital Kabul.

Taliban increases its insurgency through suicide attacks, assaults and car bombings.

A report is released that shows that over 45,000 members of the Afghan security forces had been killed since 2014.

United States of America sign a deal with the Taliban in Doha, Qatar. Under the deal US and NATO agreed to withdraw all troops within 14 months.
