Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has undergone a groin surgery and is expected to miss Bayern’s remaining Bundesliga games.
The 29-year-old Spain international has struggled lately with injuries.
‘’Thiago has had a groin operation. He will be out for three weeks. We decided between us to get it done now. It’s possible he will be back for the Cup final,’’ Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick said in a news conference on Friday.
Bayern will face Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Cup final. The final is scheduled for July 4.
The German Bundesliga finishes on June 27.
If Bayern’s expectation of a three-week absence proves accurate, Thiago would be lacking match fitness for the Cup final.
Bayern are also in the UEFA Champions League last 16, and are holding a 3-0 advantage over Chelsea after one leg.
Bayern Munich will play Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday at home. They are two wins away from winning their eighth successive Bundesliga title.
