Last month the World Bank Group approved $43 million to be used for fighting locusts across Kenya. Previously, before Covid-19 broke out, it was estimated that the locusts could cause 25 million people into food insecurity.

The locusts will mostly affect pastoralists and their livelihood. With the existing restrictions on movement, pastoralists cannot get services of vets.

According to the BBC reports, the chemicals used to fight locusts are also affecting their livestock.

Lack of enough pasture is also likely to lead to conflicts among rival pastoralist communities in Kenya. This is called resource-based conflict.
