Late General Francis Ogolla was born on 12 Feb 1962 in Siaya County. General Francis Omondi Ogolla was enlisted into the Kenya Defense Forces as an Officer Cadet on 2nd May 1984 and commissioned as a second Lieutenant on 3rd May 1985 upon which he was posted to Moi Air Base.

 

During General Francis Omondi Ogolla career in Kenya Defence Forces, he held several Command, staff and instructional appointments. In Command, he was the commanding officer Laikipia Air Base Tactical Flight Wing in 2007 and also Base Commander Laikipia Air Base from 2008 to 2012.

 

On 10 April 2012, General Francis Omondi Ogolla was promoted to a Brigadier, he was also appointed Deputy Air Force Commander and later promoted to Major General on 13 July 2018 upon which he was appointed Commander Kenya Air Force. On 28  July, 2021, he was promoted to the Rank of a Lieutenant General and appointed the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, a position he held till 28th April, 2023 when he was appointed to the position of a General and appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

 

Due to his dedication to service, the late General Francis Omondi Ogolla was awarded several medals among them, Moran of the Golden Heart (MGH), Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) and Head of State Commendation among others.

 

General Francis Omondi Ogolla leaves behind a widow, Mrs. Aileen Kathambi Ogolla and two children; Lorna Achieng Ogolla and Joel Rabuku Omondi Ogolla. He also leaves behind one daughter in-law Muthoni Njoki Mwaura and a grandson Teji Mbarara.

 

The body of General Francis Omondi Ogollawill leave Mashujaa Funeral Home to Embakazi at 6 am and be flown to Kisumu  Airport.

 

All guests are expected to be seated at Obama K’Ogello Primary School in Ng’iya village in Siaya by 9 am. The body of General Francis Omondi Ogolla will arrive at 9:30 am. President William Ruto the Commander-in-chief is expected to arrive at the same grounds at 9:45 am.

 

From 10 am to 1:00 pm, Mass will be conducted, friends, military, church and government representatives will pay their tribute to the fallen general. Afterwards there will be military burial rites and interment which includes a procession parade to the grave site at Mor Village,  reville, 1 minute silence, last post, 19-gun salute, wreath laying ceremony and national anthem.
