A shocking report by the office of the Auditor General Dr. Edward Ouko has exposed the largest corruption scandal ever. This scandal is made up irregular deals conducted by Nairobi City County officials.
Funds banked illegally
The Auditor General in the latest reports indicates that he can not ascertain with accuracy a total of Ksh. 11.4 billion which was collected and deposited in the Nairobi City County accounts but not transferred to the County Revenue Fund.
Nairobi County uses the Local Authority Integrated Financial Operations Management System (Laiforms). This was formerly used by the Nairobi City Council. All counties are required by law to use the Integrated Financial Information Management Systems (IFIMS).
Automated Parking Lots
The Nairobi County is reported to have automated three parking lots. These are:
- Law Courts (72 slots);
- Sunken (222 slots) and
- Intercontinental (36 slots)
All the above three parking areas have a 100 percent occupation. The Office of Auditor General (OAG) reported that there is always double-parking. This means that there are always more vehicles parked than the available parking lots. The county has a potential to collect Ksh. 36.3 million a year as opposed to the Ksh. 23.6 million currently collected.
