Tanzania’s PM Kassim Majaliwa has said that there are 66 active Covid-19 cases in the country, the BBC reports.
This is the latest data from the government since it stopped giving updates at the end of April.
President John Pombe Magufuli recently declared Tanzania ‘’Covid-19 free’’ thanks to prayers from citizens.
However, the American embassy last month warned that the hospitals in Dar es Saalam were overwhelmed and that the chances of contracting the virus were high.
Mr Majaliwa said that the number of infections in the country had reduced. He urged Tanzanians to keep following the safety guidelines to combat the spread of the deadly virus.
High schools, colleges and universities were reopened earlier this month. Sport activities were also allowed to continue.
Tanzania’s total number of confirmed cases remains unclear. On April 29, the last day official data was released, the government said the country had recorded a total of 509 cases including 21 deaths. On June 1, Health minister Ummy Mwalimu said Dar es Salaam city had only 4 patients.
