Sri Lankan Parliament elected Wickremesinghe as President.

 

Following the former President Rajapaksa who flee the country because of the protests after the country hit economic crisis, the protesters seems to have forgotten the matter.

He received 134 votes from the total of 223 in the Sri Lankan Parliament. He was the Prime Minister of Rajapaska. Despite his election, the protesters have been demanding his removal from office.

 They even set the elected president’s residence on fire. In response, Wickremesinghe said that it is now time to put aside the differences and come together to work in unity.

 

It is believed that the election of Wickremesinghe by Sri Lankan Parliament will worsen the situation in the country because even some members at his side are against him.
