Spain great Iker Casillas has withdrawn his application for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The 39-year-old said he was reconsidering his candidacy because of the tough economic, social and health situation in Spain.
The former Real Madrid shot stopper confirmed his intention to vie for the position in February.
More than 27,000 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Spain since the outbreak.
The World Cup-winning captain has not officially retired but has not played for his current club FC Porto since April 2019 when he suffered a heart attack in a training session.
Iker Casillas joined the club’s coaching staff in July 2019.
Iker Casillas withdrawal means incumbent Luis Rubiales is set to be re-elected unopposed in August.
