South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that places of worship will be reopened on 1 June. Worshippers will have to adhere to strict guidelines to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Temples, mosques and churches will be required to ensure that worshippers maintain social distance.
The number of people that will be allowed to attend worship depending on the size of the worship place.
The worshiper will be required to wear face masks.
They will also be required to sanitise themselves.
President Ramaphosa acknowledged the role played by leaders in the community and announced a national prayer day on 31st May.
Places of worship in South Africa were closed since March when the government announced strict lock-down measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Mr Ramaphosa said the coronavirus pandemic had taken a toll on the religious well-being of many and there was need to reopen the places of worship.
Some religious leaders have been streaming services online.
