Sharing is Caring

Boa constrictor strangles owner. A snake owner has died days after his 18-foot-long snake wrapped itself around his neck.

Elliot Senseman, 27, from Pennsylvania, USA, was pronounced dead in a local health facility July 24. He had died from accidental asphyxiation that lead to anoxic brain injury according to Coroner of Lehigh County.

Police were called to victim’s home by a family member on the afternoon of July 20.

“Our officers responded and shot the snake with hopes of freeing the victim,”  Lt Peter Nickischer of the Upper Macungie Township Police told Lehigh Valley Live.

The policeman stated that in his 19 years police work, he’s seen “nothing like this” and that the snake, which eventually died, was “very long, very thick.”

The reptile allegedly did not die on the spot and slithered away before it was put to death in a humane way.

The snake owner died four days after the snake attack.

“My son was unique and kind and should still be with his family and friends,” Senseman’s mother, Heather, told Lehigh Valley Live.

She revealed that her late son often rescued snakes and that he “was still working with” the snake in question “because it was so aggressive couldn’t be placed yet.”

“He was experienced and would never handle that snake alone.

“He was only checking the enclosure and all appropriate measures were taken. Too many people get these snakes and can’t handle or take care of them. They shouldn’t be bred to be kept as pets. He wanted them to be in a habitat that was as close to their natural environments as possible since they couldn’t be put in the wild.”

A  family member told The Daily Beast the man had experience handling snakes since he was 10 years old.

“A lot of times the snakes were neglected or mistreated and needed medical care,” the relative told media.

“He would provide all of that.”

The Daily Beast revealed that the boa constrictor was malnourished and abused by its previous owner.

When the police arrived at the victim’s home, they found him unresponsive and a 18-foot boa constrictor wrapped around his body.

The boa’s head was far away from the victim’s body so they shot it on the head.
