Emperor Dengel died in 1540, two years before the war came to an end. The Jesuit missionaries were sent to Ethiopia to win it to the Roman Catholic. Ethiopia had been converted to Christianity in the 4th Century. In 1603 Jesuit missionary Pero Paez arrived in Ethiopia.
