Sheffield United have signed midfielder Sander Berge from Belgian club Genk.
The 21-year old Norwegian played a key role in Genk’s title triumph last season and had been linked with several Premier League clubs. Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspurs, West Ham United and Burnley had shown interest in signing him.
The Blades secured his signature in a club-record fee, reported to be £22M. He penned a four and a half year deal at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder praised Sander Berge.
‘’The board have really backed us in this window to bring in players of the quality of Sander. He fits the bill in many ways. He is a Norwegian International and has played 20 times for his country. He’s also played in the UEFA Champions League and we are delighted that he has decided to come to Bramall Lane.’’
Sander Berge will wear the number 32 shirt at Sheffield United.
