Sharing is Caring

Nana Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, has declared that same-sex marriage will never happen during his reign.

The president said this during the enthronement and installation of a program of an Anglican Archbishop in Mampong on Saturday Feb. 27.

This is what he said in his own words:

”I have said this before and let me stress again that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo that same sex marriage will be legalised in Ghana. It will never happen. Let me repeat, it will never happen.” the president said to the cheering audience.

His statement about same-sex marriages comes following the closure of a recently opened office for LGBTQ+ in the capital city Accra.

When the office was opened, very few people knew that it was for supporting the LGBTQ community. Upon knowing what it was meant for, the landlord and the police shut it down. These actions led to a national discourse on LGBTQ issues in Ghana.
