The Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane wins the African player of the year for the second time. The former Liverpool forward won the race ahead of his rival Mohamed Salah.
The two players who were ones teammates at Liverpool also faced each other in the Africa Cup of Nations final. Mane kicked the winning penalty and enabled Senegal to lift the trophy.
The ceremony of the awards was held at the Confederation of African Football in Morocco on July 22, 2022.

Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty as Senegal beat Egypt in a shootout in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations final to lift the trophy for the first time.
“I am very, very happy to receive the trophy this year, I thank the Senegalese people, and dedicate this trophy to the youth of my country, who also helped Senegal reach the World Cup and won two domestic cups with Liverpool,” Mane said,
On the other side, the Senegalese national team soccer coach won the coach of the year award while Pape Ousmane Sakho won the best goal award. Another youngster Pape Sarr won the young player of the year award
Mohamed El Shenawy, Egyptian goal keeper who impressed many for the saves he made during the AFCON race won the interclub player of the year.
Desiree Ellis, South Africa won the women’s coach of the rear.
The ceremony was dominated by Senegal.
