The Kenya Kwanza coalition presidential candidate has claimed that the Arror and Kimwarer dams that were not completed will resume construction if he is elected as president. This was said during his campaign in Elgeyo-Marakwet.
“We owe you water, the people of Elgeyo Marakwet. We stood on this very ground with my friend Uhuru Kenyatta and promised that we would build the Arror and Kimwarer dams but unfortunately, thugs and political con-men stopped that plan,” the DP said.
“God willing, on August 10, that project is going to resume because you have a right to access clean water… What happened was conmanship which we don’t accept. We are embarking on that this year when we form the next government,” he added.
Ruto explained that the construction of the dams stopped immediately after President Uhuru found out that the cost was beyond the expectation. Henry Rotich Rotich who was the Treasury Cabinet Secretary was charged for acts of corruption regarding the dams.
Ruto has been always accused of project scandal by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga but he denies the accusations. But despite the accusations, the Director of Public Prosecutions Haji came out and said that the scandal does not have a link to the Deputy President.
