The Russian Premier League is set to resume on June 21, Russian football Union has confirmed.
Russian’s top flight was suspended on March 17th due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
All the 8 rounds of fixtures remaining will be played without spectators until 22nd July. Four midweek dates have been scheduled.
Relegation and promotion remain, but there will be no play-offs at the foot of the table. The bottom two teams will be replaced with the top two from the country’s 2nd tier.
The Russian cup will go on and the final is set to be played on 25th July.
‘’I am glad we are resuming the season at the optimal date for the current situation – in the penultimate week of June, ‘’Russian Premier League president Sergey Pryadkin said.
‘’This will allow all players to prepare for their return to the pitch and play the season in a short but reasonable time.
‘’We have a lot of work to do, such as returning players and coaches from abroad, and preparing for matches under difficult conditions.
‘’We will do our best to ensure the safety of all competitors.’’
Zenit St Petersburg sit on top of the Russian Premier League table, 9 points ahead of second-placed Locomotiv Moscow.
