The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Russia was responsible for killing Alexander Litvinenko – a former Russian Spy who became a British citizen.
Alexander was poisoned with radioactive Polonium-210 in London back in 2006.
The perpetrators are believed to be a KGB bodyguard and one Dmitry Kovtun. They poisoned Litvineko by spiking his tea with a radioactive substance.
The Court ruled that Russia should pay Litvinenkos’ wife $144,000 equivalent to approximately Ksh 15.8 million.
Polonium-210 is a rare material which is produced in a reactor that emits alpha rays and not gamma rays.
If ingested the radioactive substance cause multiple organ failure.
