Russia has been banned for four years from all sporting events by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada). The decision was made in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday by the Wada’s executive Committee.
This comes after Russia’s Anti-Doping agency (RUSADA) manipulated lab data that was given to investigators early this year.
Russia will miss the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics and FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, athletes who will prove to be untainted by the doping scandal will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag.
RUSADA has three weeks to appeal against the ban. If the agency does appeal, the appeal will be forwarded to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
