Former Vice President under Robert Mugabe has fled from Zimbabwe anti-corruption to avoid interrogations over abuse of office and corruption.
VP Phelekezela Mphoko aged 79 served under former President Robert Mugabe. Police in Bulawayo were looking towards arresting him but he drove off as anti-corruption officials approached his vehicle.
“We had agreed to meet at the police post at the magistrate’s court to record a warned-and- cautioned statement and have his fingerprints taken but when our officials approached his car, he drove away at high speed,” Zimbambwe Anti-Corruption Commission spokesperson told AFP.
“He is now a fugitive from justice,” the spokesman added.
Phelekezela Mphoko served alongside the current president Emmerson Mnangagwa under Mugabe as vice presidents.
Robert Mugabe was ousted on November 2017 after decades in power first as Prime Minister and later as President.
