Professor Marlene Temmerman, Chairperson at Aga Khan’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, told media that teenage girls bear the largest burden as well as the consequences of sex.
She further stated that sexually active teenage girls should be given a chance to decide when to get pregnant.
Adolescent girls are the major victims of consequences of sexual activity, including unplanned pregnancies. They should be able to access these services without being judged, victimized or sent away from school, said Prof Marlene Temmerman.
Kenya is doing well with 58% of married women using contraceptives but the same cannot be said about teenagers.
