Relationship between Poor Health and Economic Growth
Many economists have conducted studies to determine the relationship between poor health and economic growth. There is no secret that poor health is a major cause of poor personal incomes. This is basically because poor health prevents people from actively participating in the labor markets.
A large percentage of people between 25 to 54 years of age in previous studies have reported being too sick to work. This is the greatest reason why most prime-age people do not apply for jobs. For women this is the second most commonly cited reason for being unemployed.

The above graph shows that a large proportion of women do not want a job as a result of taking care of house or family commonly called housewives. There is nearly an equal number of men and women who do not want a job as a result of being “too sick or disabled” or being “in school” or “retired.”
