Raila Odinga who is the presidential running mate under the Azimio la Umoja Coalition has said he is not going to attend the debate. This is because he cited that the Deputy President is dictating the type of questions that are asked during the debate. Instead, the former Prime Minister is going to attend a meeting in Westlands.
On the other hand, the Deputy President has demanded that the debate should not focus on the matters pertaining to corruption, but rather focus on the challenges faced by Kenyans. Professor Mutua said in a statement, that Raila cannot share the same podium with William Ruto who is greedy of power and has no regard to public morals, shame or ethics.
“It would be a colossal mistake to reward such a person with a national debate. We will not help his failing campaign. He can explain himself and his poor record to voters without our help,” Mutua added
Mutua also said that William Ruto’s supporters have abandoned him and the Azimio coalition will not help the Kenya Kwanza leaders.
“Simply put, our main opponent has proven over the course of his career that he will do and say anything in his ungovernable greed for power. As is well known, our opponent has traversed the country hurling epithets at us and other key national leaders, including vile sexist attacks,” Mutua said
Mutua said that instead of Raila sharing the same podium with Ruto, he will rather answer the questions put to them by the Kenyan citizens. Raila will be accompanied by his running mate Martha Karua.
