Real Madrid have moved to top of the La Liga standings after their 2-1 win at Sociedad on Sunday.
Captain Sergio Ramos converted a penalty in the 50th minute after Vinicius Jr was brought down by Sociedad defender Diego Llorente.
Adnan Januzaj’s goal was ruled out by the VAR in the 68th Minute before Karim Benzema doubled Madrid’s lead in the 70th minute.
Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino scored a consolation goal for the hosts with 7 minutes remaining.
The loss leaves Real Sociedad at 6th position with 47 points. Imanol Alguacil’s side are hoping to secure a Champions League spot at the end of the season.
Ramos’ goal made him the highest goal-scoring defender in La Liga history.
Real Madrid are on top of the La Liga table as La Liga employs a head-to-head record system in its ranking. Barca were earlier held to a goalless draw by Sevilla.
With 8 rounds of games remaining, Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to battle for this season’s title.
