The national super alliance presidential candidate has withdrawn from the presidential election. The repeat election was scheduled for the 26th October 2017. Addressing the press on 10th October, Raila Odinga said that through withdrawal the country will be able to have credible, free, and fair election according to the law.
He explained that withdrawal from the race is the only way that the country can have free and fair elections.
Raila said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will be expected to conduct fresh nominations and the election scheduled for 26th October should be cancelled.
The Nasa presidential candidate been demanding the IEBC to implement the stated irreducible minimums for the elections to be credible, free, and fair.
He accused the IEBC of not acting in good faith for scheduling the elections on 26th without addressing the Nasa’s irreducible minimums that they presented.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) also accused the Jubilee Party (JP) and IEBC of working hand- in-hand to commit the same irregularities and illegalities that were committed on 8th August 2017.
He says that the commission has been engaging them for a long time well knowing that they had no intention meeting their demands according to the electoral laws and the constitution.
The NASA irreducible minimums were:
- A list polling stations and the registered voters should be availed in advance.
- New returning officers to be appointed
- Clear results transmission
- Complicit elections personnel
- The ICT infrastructure should be redesigned
- Form 34Bs.
He said that the same criminals who did the fraud on the 8th August election should not be in charge of setting up the coming elections. They may be setting a mechanism that will be used to defraud the 26th October elections.
