Proposed Taxes on the church in Kenya has made religious leaders to be up in arms. This will also affect NGOs engaging in business activities.
Rev David Abaki Odhiambo of Nomiya Church condemned the proposed regulations terming them being in bad taste.
His main argument was that religion is a calling and they are not business enterprises as they are perceived by the drafters of the proposed tax regulations.
Reverent David Abaki pleased with President William Ruto and his government to reconsider the new tax regulations. He added that the church has played an instrumental role praying for peace of the nation.
Last week MPs supported the proposed tax regulations for churches and NGOs as well as other institutions exempted from taxes.
Proposed Taxes on the church regulations were drafted by a team lead by the form CS Treasury Professor Njuguna Ndung’u.
Kimani Ichung’wa has assured the religious organizations in Kenya that the bill shall not see the light of day once tabled on the floor of parliament.
