Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, 37, and wife prophetess Mary Bushiri fled South Africa for their home county – Malawi.
Prophet Bushiri is a multi-millionaire pastor and founder of Mega Church known as Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) based in South Africa with branches in 70 countries around the world.
The couple are reported to have performed over 20,000 bank transactions in one month before they fled to move their assets out of South Africa.
The two are being charged of money laundering to a tune of R100 million and fraud.
Prophet Shepherd Bushir is a lover of expensive looking suits and travels regularly on a private jet due to the demands of his ministry. Prophet Bushiri oversees a successful business empire with interests in real estate and mining.
He owns the Sparkling Water Hotel and Spa in South Africa. Each of them have 5 passports with one being regular passports, 1 diplomatic passport each and three filled passports which they use because they have visas in them.
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has over 1 million followers in South Africa alone. They have a large presence on social media with 4.2 million followers on Facebook and 489,000 subscribers on YouTube among others.
In South Africa, some government officials believe that the entourage of Malawian President, Lazarus Chakwera, had been trying to smuggle the pastor out of South Africa on a presidential jet.
Other accounts indicate that there is a possibility that they Bushiris were smuggled out of South Africa through a syndicate which specializes in smuggling cars stolen in South Africa to Malawi.
South Africa wants the Bushiri’s extradited.
