The Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip is reported to be in good spirits as he left hospital after a successful heart surgery. The Duke who is 99 was admitted to King Edward VII’s Hospital located in central London.
He successfully underwent a heart procedure for a heart condition at St. Bartholomew’s. The Duke returned to Windsor Castle after staying at the hospital for 28 nights. This is reported to be his longest stay at the hospital.
“His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him… and everyone who has sent their good wishes,” a statement from the palace read.
Prince Philip, 99, and Queen Elizabeth, 93, had spent the most recent lockdown at the Windsor Castle with a smaller group of household staff.
The couple has been married for 73 years now. They received their first jab of Covid-19 in January.
During his long stay at the King Edward VII’s the Duke was visited by his son the Prince of Wales. The Duke was transferred to Barts for specialist treatment for a pre-existing heart condition. A successful procedure was undertaken on 3 March. Later he was transferred back to King Edward VII’s hospital. This is a private clinic in central London which has treated the Queen and other senior royals in the past.
It can be recalled that the Duke of Edinburgh retired from his royal duties in 2017. In 2012 he was treated for a bladder condition and in 2013 he underwent a surgery on his abdomen.
