Sharing is Caring

Two Western Australia pig farmers are facing a jail term for illegally importing Danish pig semen which was camouflaged in shampoo bottles.

Henning Laue has plead guilty of violating biosecurity laws as well as breaching quarantine. The second farmer Torben Soerensen has already been sentenced and will spend three years in prison.

Between May 2009 and March 2017, farmers had illegally imported pig semen from Denmark according to reports made at the Perth district court in Australia.

The semen was sneaked into Australia for use in breeding sows.

This importation of pig semen is reported to be threatening the livelihoods of 2,700 pork production firms in Australia. Millions of Austrians are pork consumers.

GD Pork engaged in illegal importation of pig semen in order to get a competitive advantage in the pork mark as a result of the new genetics.
