Following Russia’s invasion in Ukraine on 24 February 2022, they have been a number sectors that have been hit.
Russia claims Ukraine as part of their territory while Ukraine claims it’s an independent country. This led to the invasion.
The invasion has led to death of many Ukrainian residents including visitors from other countries. The Russian army moved war armored vehicles and weapons into Ukraine to reclaim their lost territory.
Despite the move made by Russia to invade Ukraine, the Ukrainian army have stood strong for the challenge. They have fought since February and the war is still on.
But the war has affected Ukraine as a country. Many people have lost there lives and others displaced. Health and education facilities have been blown up in the course of the war.
Dr. Ilona Butova, one of the medical services providers in Ukraine, claimed that most of the doctor have left work directing huge responsibilities to the remaining doctors.

Ilona who owns a hospital in Zolochiv, claimed that out of 120 doctors before Russia invasion, there only remain 47 doctors. Buildings in Zolochiv looks like ruins others with crumbled walls caused by Russia artillery shelling.
Ilona claimed that her hospital is currently receiving an increased number of patients comparing before the invasion.
Most of the patients come from come from places kilometers away to Ilona’s hospital. Health facilities in Ukraine were hit by COVID-19 but the invasion made it even worse.
Some of the challenges that health facilities in Ukraine currently face include; shortage of man power, drug shortage, relocation of medical staff to safer area and corruption.
Despite the challenges, Ilona claimed that she will not move from Ukraine claiming that people still need there services.
“It’s very hard, but people need us. We have to stay and help,” said Ilona. According to estimates made by United Nations, over 6.4 million people have moved out of Ukraine in search of safety.
Over the invasion period, 900 hospitals has been brought down and 123 others left at the edge of collapsing. Considering deaths, 18 doctors have been killed and 59 others left badly injured.
