Northwest Arkansas is hoping to lure entrepreneurs and remote tech workers  to their region by offering $10,000 worth of Bitcoin as well as a bicycle. 

 

“Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and we’re now seeing more explosive growth in our tech sector,” said Nelson Peacock, CEO and president of the Northwest Arkansas Council.

 

“This expanded incentive offer — Bitcoin and a Bike — not only embraces the growing trend toward the use of cryptocurrency as a payment option by employers, but also helps increase our pipeline of talent to benefit tech employers, start-ups, cities, local businesses and the region overall.”

 

There is an excess of 10,000 job opportunities in Northwest Arkansas and a shortage of talented people to fill those positions. Most of the jobs available are in STEM field – science, technology, engineering, art or math jobs. This is according to Life Works Here initiative website. This site has an aim of attracting people to the region.

 

Remote workers or entrepreneurs who are self-employed can apply for $10,000 in bitcoin or cash.  Beneficiaries will also receive a mountain or a street bicycle to use in outdoors. Those interested have up to six months after acceptance to relocate to Northwest Arkansas.  They will also sign a lease for local housing or even purchase a house a house. In order to qualify you have to be at least 24 years old.  They also have to have a full-time remote employment.

 

The website promoting the Life Works Here Initiatives launched in November 2020 have attracted an excess of 36,000 applications from over 115 countries as well as 50 states in United States of America.

 

Corporates have not been left behind, for instance EV Startup Canoo recently indicated that they are relocating their headquarters to Northwest Arkansas. The company will also put in place their Research and Development center in the region. Walmart is already is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. The other big companies located in the state are JB Hunt and Tyson Foods.
