Netherlands Health Minister Hugo de Jonge has said that sporting events will have to take place without spectators until there is a vaccine for coronavirus.
The deadly coronavirus has infected over 41,000 people in the Netherlands, with the virus claiming 5,288 lives.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Wednesday that organized sport could resume from September 1st but mass gatherings will not be allowed until a vaccine is developed.
‘’We cannot yet mention a date for the last step, the mass gatherings. That is actually only possible if there is a vaccine and no one knows how long it will take,’’ said de Jonge in a letter to the Dutch parliament.
The top-flight Dutch league was cancelled last month after the government banned public events, with no league winners, no promotions or relegation.
