Niko Kovac is ready to take AS Monaco back to the top of Ligue 1 after struggles in the past campaigns.
Kovac was appointed Monaco head coach earlier this week to replace Robert Moreno.
Monaco, who won the Ligue 1 title in 2016-17, finished ninth in the 2019-20 season.
The season was ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic and final placings were reached on points-per-game basis.
Kovac told a news conference: ‘’It was a surprise, it went very quick, so that’s the reason why I’m only talking in English and not in French.
‘’The reason is very easy. AS Monaco is a big, big club, with a big tradition and the last years weren’t so successful like they hope here.
‘’Our goal, our aim, is to bring Monaco back to the top of Ligue 1.’’
The Croatian tactician was sacked by Bayern Munich in November 2019.
Monaco will begin their Ligue 1 campaign at home against Reims on August 23.
