A woman gave birth onboard a flight returning Nigerians from Dubai at the United Arab Emirates.
Kafayat Amusan gave birth to a baby boy about half an hour after the flight left the airport according to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairperson of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
The plane returned immediately to Dubai to ensure safety of the mother and her baby.
Ms Amusan was admitted to a hospital in Dubai with her baby and the two are in a good condition. They’ll travel to Nigeria after the newborn’s birth certificate is issued and travel documents are prepared.
Ms Amusan was among the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from United Arab Emirates due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
All those returning to Nigeria from abroad will be quarantined at designated quarantine centres in Lagos and Abuja for 14 days.
Nigeria Foreign affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama had announced earlier that 4,000 Nigerians living abroad were willing to return home.
