A Nigerian impostor has been practicing as an advocate for 15 years without having proper qualifications. The man was reported by BBC to be aged 49 years old. The Nigerian impostor was arrested by the police as he was making a bail application for one of his clients in Lagos.
The man was arraigned in court where he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. It’s surprising that the man practiced for 15 years without being noticed.
The man had some understanding on how lawyers conduct their business in court. People started suspecting him during the proceedings of a criminal case in court.
He was working towards changing the bail conditions for one of his clients but failed to understand how to go about it. A lawyer who was present at the courtroom challenged the suspect. He said that a trained lawyer cannot find it difficult to deal with the bail issue.
The suspect told the media that he had studied law at a university in Ukraine and that he had not been called to the bar in Nigeria.
Despite all these shortcomings, the suspect is reported to have won numerous cases at Nigerian law courts.
