Nigeria’s government has said it is still not safe to further ease coronavirus restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the virus in the country.
Boss Mustapha, the head of the country’s task force told a media briefing that the country is not ready to re-open the economy fully.
He said that any further relaxation of restrictions would portend great danger to the citizens.
The first phase of the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions ended on Monday and the second phase was scheduled to begin after assessment.
Officials say that the initial easing of restrictions will be maintained for two more weeks.
This means schools, airports, land borders, parks and places of worship will remain closed. Large gatherings are also banned. Night curfew from 20:00 to 6:00 will also continue being enforced.
The total lockdown imposed on Kano state two weeks ago following reports of unexplained deaths also remains in place.
Government offices, banks and markets will continue operating for limited hours.
6,175 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Nigeria with the virus claiming 191 lives.
