Niger’s Labour and employment minister Mohamed Ben Omar died on Sunday from Coronavirus, state broadcaster announced on Monday.
‘’Alas, it is a terrible disease which took the life of Minister Mohamed Ben Omar,’’ Public television Tele Saleh reported.
His Social Democratic Party announced his death on Sunday saying he had died at a hospital in the Country’s capital Niamey, but did not reveal the cause of the death.
Ben Omar was born in South Central town of Tesker and has been a leader of Social Democratic Party (PSD). He began his political life in 1999 under president Mamadou Tandja and has served in Parliament in various ministerial roles.
Ben Omar has served as the country’s labour minister since 2017.
Niger has so far confirmed 755 coronavirus infections, with the virus claiming 37 deaths.
