New Zealand politician MP Julie Ann Genter cycled to hospital and gave birth an hour later.
“At 3.04 am this morning we welcomed the newest member of our family. I genuinely wasn’t planning to cycle in labor, but it did end up happening,” the MP wrote on Facebook.
New Zealand is know for having down-to-earth politicians. A good example is the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern who took maternity leave while in office and during a United Nations meeting, she brought along her 3-months old child because she was breast-feeding.
Ann Genter is currently the spokesperson for transport issues and her Facebook profile includes “I love my bicycle”.
This is not the first time that she is cycling to hospital to give birth. In 2018, she biked to hospital to give birth to her first born child.
Sweden’s first female Prime Minister was voted in and then she resigned just hours afterwards.
Magdalena Andersson resigned from office hours after being voted in. This was announced on Sweden’s official Twitter account.
Andersson had not yet had counsel with the King.
The Green Party decided to leave the minority coalition government with Andersson’s Social Democrats.
All the other Nordic countries (Iceland, Finland, Norway and Denmark) have had female national leaders in the past.
Before Andersson, the post of Prime Minister has been held by 33 men. She holds a Masters degree in Economics from Stockholm School of Economics and has held the position of Minister of Finance.
Sweden is currently facing a number of challenges including gang violence and shootings in many suburbs of Stockholm and other main cities in the country.
