Frank de Boer has been appointed the new Netherlands head coach, the Royal Dutch Footrall Association (KNVB) confirmed on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old replaces Ronald Koeman, who left in August to take over as Barcelona head coach.
De Boer, who made 112 appearances for the Netherlands, has signed a two-year contract.
Frank de Boer had a promising start in his coaching career, leading Ajax to winning four straight league titles between 2011 and 2014.
De Boer had a disappointing spell at Inter Milan and was sacked after 85 days in charge in 2016.
A year later, Frank de Boer was fired at Crystal Palace after just 10 weeks in charge.
In December 2018, De Boer was appointed manager of MLS side Atalanta United. In his first season in charge he won the US Open Cup.
Frank de Boer departed the American club two months ago.
Frank de Boer worked for the national team as assistant coach to Bert van Marwijk at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Netherlands reached the final but lost to Spain.
Frank de Boer’s first game in charge of the Netherlands will be a friendly against Mexico on October 7.
