The National Land Commission (NLC) recently released a notice that it will acquire land for the Lamu Port South sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project in Isiolo, Garissa, Turkana, Lamu, Meru, Marsabit, Baringo and Laikipia counties.
The project is targeting to acquire 9,225 acres of land for the project. The project is expected to cost Ksh. 2.5 trillion. This project was commission by the Mwai Kibaki government and its implementation is behind schedule by four years. The LAPSSET is the second economic and transport corridor after the northern corridor.
The project is composed of Lamu International Airport which will cover 2,409 acres, Isiolo International airport Lamu Resort (470 acres) a road network, a pipeline, fiber optic network, Lamu Industrial Zone and a railway line.
