Sharing is Caring

NASA has advertised jobs for people who have dreamed of living on planet mars.

They are preparing for sending astronauts to Mars. Now NASA has started taking applications. They will select four people to live for a year in Mars Dune Alpha.  This is a 1,700-square-foot Martian habitat which was created through a 3D-printer. It is located inside a building at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The volunteers who qualify will be paid and their work will be to live in a simulated Martian exploration mission. There will be limited communication to family and friends, spacewalks, equipment failures and restricted food and resources.

NASA will be conducting three such experiments with the first one planned for fall 2022.

The volunteers will eat the ready-to-eat space food and the habitat has no windows. They will grow some plants.

“We want to understand how humans perform in them,” said lead scientist Grace Douglas.

“We are looking at Mars realistic situations.”

NASA is not seeking just anybody in their call for applications.  The stakes are higher, you must have a master’s in Mathematics, Science  or engineering. Pilots will also qualify.

Further, only permanent U.S resident or American citizens are eligible to apply for the four positions.

In terms of age, applicants have to be between 30 and 55 years of age. They also have to have a good physical health and no diet issues.

Pundits have already stated that the experiment will be more successful if the volunteers who get selected are similar to the people who will be going to Mars.

Russia had conducted similar experiments which did not end well because they had selected everyday people. They called it Mars 500.

Scientists believe that there is going to be plenty of freedom for those who quality. That is “a year away from the demands of your normal life.”
